Introduction This paper is intended to inform its reader about Multiple Personality Disorder and whether it is fact or fiction. This paper was intended to be contrived after watching the film â€Å"The Three Faces of Eve†, directed by Nunnally Johnson in 1957. The star of the film, Joanne Woodard, portrays the title character Eve White, who acts through the separate personalities of Eve White, Eve Black, and Jane. Despite the doctors in the film being able to explain Multiple Personality Disorder, the question still arises today as to whether the disease is faux or factual. What is Multiple Personality Disorder? According to the researchers of mayoclinic.org, Multiple Personality Disorder, also known as Dissociative Identity Disorder, is characterized by a â€Å"switching to alternate personalities†. The host of the disorder feels the presence of one or more people living within their head. The disease was first discovered by â€Å"Dr. Jean- Martin Charcot, (the) chief physician at Salpetriere Hospital in Paris†. The disease was first thought to have been a mixture of epilepsy and hysteria, thus its original name being Hystero-Epilepsy. The early symptoms of the disease were: contortions, convulsions, fainting, and impaired consciousness (psycom.net). Fictional Reasoning Discussions about the reality of MPD have been recorded since the 1880s.
